Grammatrain was more than just another band from the ‘90s grunge scene. Emerging from the same fertile Seattle soil that birthed Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam, Grammatrain carved their own path with a blend of distorted emotion, spiritual grit, and raw authenticity. Their music was not just heard—it was felt.
Fronted by Pete Stewart and backed by brothers Paul and Dalton Roraback, the band brought deep introspection to the often bleak landscape of hard rock. Their songs were spiritual battle cries—bold, broken, and brutally honest.
A Legacy That Started With BLOODGOOD
The roots of Grammatrain dig deep into Christian rock history. Drummer Paul Roraback—formerly of BLOODGOOD—was introduced to the scene through a Seattle Bible study led by none other than Michael Bloodgood himself. That raw vulnerability and real-life struggle shaped Grammatrain’s sound: less polished praise, more midnight lament.
“Christians wouldn’t deal with me because I was still doing drugs,” Roraback recalled. “And my stoner friends didn’t want anything to do with me because I had become a Christian.”
That tension became their truth—and their truth became music.

Released in 1995 at the height of the grunge era, Lonely House was a raw, soul-baring debut produced by Aaron Sprinkle (Poor Old Lu). With tracks like “Execution,” “Believe,” and “Jerky Love Song,” it pulled no punches—offering melodic grit with spiritual weight. The album struck a powerful chord with Christian and mainstream rock fans alike, becoming a cult classic and defining a new kind of heavy, faith-fueled music.
