To honor the 25th anniversary of the September 11th tragedy in New York City, Steven Curtis Chapman has released a brand new song, titled “Remember the Day.”
About the song, Steven writes:
“On September 11, 2002, I was traveling from Nashville to New York City with my band to be part of a night of remembrance at Madison Square Garden. As we drove in, the memories of September 11, 2001 came flooding back – Mary Beth and Shaoey and I had been in Washington, D.C. on that tragic day and watched out our hotel window as fighter jets flew just over the rooftops while smoke rose in the distance from the Pentagon.
I wrote “Remember the Day” to sing that 1st anniversary night in New York to help process our shared grief, honor those who lost their lives, and celebrate the courage, sacrifice, and compassion that brought our country together in the midst of unimaginable loss. I never recorded it before now, but decided this 25th anniversary seemed like the right time.
It’s my hope and prayer that as we remember that day when so much and so many were lost, we’ll also “remember the way the flood of compassion swept though out nation and lit up the dark.” Romans 12:21 reminds us: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”….We have experienced the power and truth of those words before…may we remember that those words are still true, even as “Remember The Day”.”
