Surprising Jobs Musicians Had Before They Made It Big

April 13, 2017

Music has been with us since the dawn of time. History dates back the very first musical instruments tens of thousands of years ago. But if we were to give out a reasonable, logical, or universally accepted argument why we love music, we would have a difficult time doing it. Researchers all around the globe have dedicated their time, energy, and interest in figuring out what it is that makes us fall in love with music. Some of them are still searching for a special music center in the brain, but to no avail. It would actually appear that there are several areas in the brain that are triggered when we listen to music, or play it on our own.

What scientists can tell us, however, is that we seem to love harmony – proven by an increase in the auditory areas of the temporal lobe in the brain. This region is responsible for understanding various musical features, and it gets activated every time you listen to your favorite radio – Weekend 22.

Whenever we listen to music, we tend to get lost in the feelings it brings out the surface and the mood it gives us – and we rarely think about the actual musicians and their lives before they became famous. To your surprise, most singers and performing artists had other jobs before they started singing. Curious to know what alternative rock legend Kurt Cobain used to do before he became famous? Or what David Bowie used to do before he became an artist? Let's find out together!

Kurt Cobain Used To Be a Janitor

Nirvana's Kurt Cobain had various small jobs before he became a rock star. One of them was being a janitor. Even though he would not take out the trash or clean his kitchen at home, he did take on a job as a janitor to pay for his first demo and start his career. He worked for Lemon's Janitorial Service and it appears to have been one of the best decisions of his life – as it paved the way to him and his band becoming a legend.

David Bowie Was A Delivery Boy

Bowie was 13 when we got a job as a delivery boy for a butchery. He needed the money for his saxophone lessons with sax legend Ronnie Ross.

Rocker Ozzie Osbourne used to be an abattoir worker, and he was slicing cow carcasses to support himself. Brandon Flowers was a bellow at a casino in Sin City. Other musicians used to work as local locksmiths or electricians. If you are currently looking for ways of supporting your passion for music and future career as a musician/singer/performing artist, a job as a locksmith can start with an apprenticeship at a local service.

What Does It Take To Be A Locksmith?door repair locksmith

Whether you are interested in the residential field or you would like to offer your services to local businesses, you should begin with getting licensed and authorized for the job. Take a look at this page here https://www.247asaplocksmith.com/commercial and find out what will be expected from you as a professional lock technician. You will be responsible for fitting high-security locks in office buildings, as well as windows, safes, and file cabinets. You will install, fix, and re-key locks, fit panic bars and buttons, install sensor alarms and small-keyed locks for windows, and secure file cabinets, mailing boxes, or safes. In case of accidental lockouts from offices or buildings because of missing keys, broken locks, or forgotten passcodes, an emergency commercial locksmith can also come to the rescue.

Commercial locksmiths offer pertinent advise and recommendations on the best security solutions suitable to custom needs and limited budgets. If you feel like all this might be a little too much for you, you could always start small and look for a locksmith shop looking for an apprentice. You could begin by fixing or re-keying locks for local residents and move on to more complex jobs later on. There are special training and certification classes you could join that will teach you all the theoretical and practical aspects of the job.

Support Your Dream To Be A Musician

If you have always been handy with your toolbox and you like fixing things around the house, a small job as a locksmith could be just right for you. Lots of artists begin with a series of small and unrelated jobs to support their dreams of becoming famous. They need the money to record songs and demos, buy musical instruments or microphones, or travel around the state for small gigs.
